NTW The Grange

Dignity Day at the Grange Friday 25th February 2011.

On the day a range of activities took place on the ward which offered a sense of community, Staff provided a fun filled day with the theme of “Giving the gift of time” and it was a very special day for all clients and staff.

At the Grange we offered a pampering service for the day, offering treatments to all service users making them feel good about them selves and provide some relaxation. Treatments included Foot spa and foot rubs, head massages, Facials, Nails pedicure and manicures. Lush kindly donated a selection of product to be used.

Dignity discussion group took part in the afternoon where a visual statement of what dignity means to the service users was made through decoration of cakes and biscuits with icing, and a poster presentation which was displayed on the unit this was in the form of a “Dignity tree” with individual statement hanging from branches. This highlighted the main theme and purpose of the day.

Comments from service users

What dignity means to me…

Respect

Choice

Freedom

To be heard

Good health

Being nice

In the evening we had a rock and roll evening with clients and staff having a karaoke evening with the wii band including playing on drums and guitar. Staff and service users sang and danced the night away; this was a huge success with everybody. The entire day was fun packed and really enjoyable the ward had a buzz feel to it and everyone had such a good time and we all felt happy and relaxed. All involved felt it had been a great success.

Feed back from service users

Dignity day was very canny we discussed certain things and I am aware that the day has gone so well. I enjoyed the singing.

Enjoyed the singing and manicure

I really enjoyed the day especially the drums and band

I enjoyed my hands being massaged and I had a group talk about dignity. I am treated fairly and have more choices now finding out about dignity.
