MK RAIT Dignity day

just to let you know of our efforts for dignity action day on 1st feb

I work, as an occupational therapist, in a very busy intermediate care rapid assessment team and with workload in mind myself and my manager, Denise Miles, decided to advertise a short presentation to all other services with whom we share a building (community social work team, single point of access, early discharge stroke team, community care team and end of life team) highlighting the 10 Dignity Challenges, The Milton Keynes Community Dignity Network and our work to date in addition to further promoting to people the benefits of signing up as dignity champions.

I arranged a 'Blue Peter' style advertising campaign - all arranged within an hour or so and I would like to say, that with the promise of home made cakes (at 50p per cake) we had a good turn out and managed to raise £25.00 to be donated to our local Cancer Hospice (Willen Hospice). Unfortunately, due to the massive workload, a rush of referrals and an ad hoc visit from HQ and a barrage of new referrals we were unable to present but I feel we still managed to further promote the cause. There was a great deal of amusement by the Dignity Action Cartoon illustrations - a few have remained on the walls (along with the 10 dignity challenge posters) and some requested by the manager of the stroke team to allow her to place them, within the general hospital, to further promote staff reflection on their practice and approach to patients.
