Sharing Ambitions

Staff and service users from The Care Solutions Group marked Dignity Action Day in a wide-variety of ways from planting a rose bush and preparing a vegetable patch to discussions with service users and staff training sessions about what dignity means.

The Care Solutions Group provides residential care and supported living to Adults with learning disabilities and domiciliary care to the elderly across Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire, Leicestershire and Derbyshire.

Mark Constant, Group Dignity Champion and Managing Director said:

“We have always believed that everyone deserves to be treated with Dignity and as an individual. National Dignity Action Day was a great opportunity for our staff and those individuals we support to focus on the importance of dignity and we will ensure through continuous training and learning from best practice that this is always at the heart of what we do”

At one of our residential homes in Bedford, the service users chose to discuss their personal wishes and ambitions for the future, as part of Dignity Action Day. Speaking about his own understanding of dignity, Blaise, pictured above, said:

“I really feel that the staff help me and treat me with respect. The staff are helping me to practice the skills I will need when I move into my own place. I’m also really enjoying working at head office and have learnt a lot of new things. It has made me feel very proud to know that I do a good job and am valued as a person.”

Elsewhere in the Care Solutions Group, in Acacia House in Peterborough and Dean House in Rushden they held tea parties for their friends, families and advocates; in Woodlands in Derby they planted a rose bush and in Brambling Way in Leicester alongside their celebrations they held a discussion with staff and service users about what Dignity meant to them and shared some good and bad experiences. Those in supported living schemes in Bedfordshire invited their friends and families to join them for an event at the Snoezelen Centre at Twinwoods in Bedford.
