Bothal Dignity Day
Then men on Bothal worked together with the staff to come up with ideas and suggestions to celebrate dignity day this year on 1st February
The idea was to create a fun filled day of events for all to participate in whilst raising the very important issues of dignity in care. Service users on the ward were keen to devise their own activities to promote the event and worked closely with the staff to organize all the activities and the refreshments.
On the morning individuals were given the opportunity to to design a Dignity poster with the artist to provide a focal point for our display. Light refreshments were provided and individuals were able to discuss issues raised and what dignity actually meant to them.
In the afternoon staff from psychology facilitated a workshop to discuss "values". Those who choose not to attend the group participated in a range of dignity events hosted around the hospital site.
The men on Bothal requested to make their own tea in the evening with staff support and choose to make a curry which was enjoyed together in the dinning area. This proved to be a great success with many asking to make meals together a regular thing
To finish off the day we enjoyed a dignity quiz and word search with small prizes. Overall the day provided time to reflect on the key issues of dignity in care in a relaxed informal manner and highlight that dignity is to be incorporated and promoted everyday not just on Dignity day.
