Dignity Action Day 2012 was celebrated on 1st February and Tenlands Care Home in Ferryhill celebrated the occasion in style, treating their residents, staff and visitors to a day to remember
Home Manager Karen Davison is very passionate about ensuring all of the people in her care are loved and respected and has 6 Dignity Champions working within her home. This ensures that people are treated with respect and compassion at every moment of the day.
Karen firmly believes that “People who are looked after in 24 hour care have exactly the same rights as everyone else. When I accepted the post of Home Manager in Tenlands in 2010, I made a promised to myself that we would care for our residents as if they were our own family & I truly believe we do that, every day”.
Social Life Facilitator Bev Poulson arranged for three Beauty Therapists from a local salon to spend the day within the Home, treating every resident to their very own pamper session.
This was held in the newly refurbished Relaxation Room, in candlelight, listening to the sound of peaceful music.
Treatments offered included facials, head & neck massages and manicures. Resident Sylvia stated that the facial she received was lovely and soothing, such a relaxing experience. Margaret stated “I could have sat there all day, one of the girls wanted to take me home!”. Philip enjoyed his shoulder massage so much that he fell asleep. Ron loved his neck massage too, saying it took away all his aches & pains. Connie said the girls were absolutely lovely and made her feel so special and cared for.
The Mayor of Ferryhill also spent the afternoon in Tenlands, talking to the residents and enjoying afternoon tea with the residents and their families. Ken left the home reluctantly, stating “I have had a wonderful time today. The residents here seem so happy, everyone was smiling and it really has been an honour to be invited to join in celebrating such an important day. These people have made this community what it is today and I will remember today for a long time”.
