University of the west of England, Bristol make dignity a priority for their nurses.

Students, teachers and practitioners met last month at UWE, Bristol to participate in an event which focussed specifically on dignity in care in the adult nursing preregistration curriculum.

Nurse education is based on a programme which is half theory and half practice and close collaboration between students and those who teach, support and assess them is crucial.

Changes in health and social care present ongoing challenges for the student and it is essential that nurse education meets not only the requirements of national standards but equips its graduates to be champions for dignity in care in the wide range of settings in which they will serve in the future.

The group intend to meet again and develop with agenda to ensure that nurse education continues to respond to the challenges of patient need in a way that both understands and protects dignity in care.
