WISE - Women’s Inequality and Safety Enhancement

Are you a woman who has experienced a patient safety event whilst in hospital?

About the WISE study
Women make up 51% of the population but are underrepresented in medical research, leading to a “gender data gap”. As a result, healthcare may be “male by default”, meaning women’s symptoms may be overlooked and their voices unheard. This study aims to better understand women’s experiences when care goes wrong in hospitals.

Who can take part?
A “patient safety event” is an unexpected or unintended incident that could have, or did lead to harm to patient/s. The WISE study seeks to interview women aged 18 or over who have experienced a patient safety event related to general healthcare (not including maternity or gynaecology) during their adult life and are able and willing to talk about their experience.

Why we need you
By taking part, you can help us explore why some women speak up when care goes wrong, and why others don’t. By sharing your lived experiences, you can help us create training tools for healthcare professionals, to help healthcare to become safer, more responsive, and fairer for all women.
