Skills for Care State of the Adult Social Care Sector and Workforce

Skills for Care have published their State of the Care Workforce report and in her forward the CEO Professor Oonagh Smyth writes

“This feels like a defining moment for adult social care. The Prime Minister has set out an ambition to build a National Care Service, free at the point of use, with greater recognition for care workers and a stronger relationship with the NHS. That ambition reflects the fact that there can be no sustainable reform of care without a sustainable, skilled and valued workforce. Through its analysis of our rich Adult Social Care Workforce Data Set, this report shows both progress and challenges. Vacancies and turnover have fallen, but workforce growth is slowing, fewer British people are joining and international recruitment has fallen significantly. The task ahead is not simply to fill vacancies, but to build a workforce people choose to join, develop and stay in.”
