Free Dignity Events for Champions and Staff in Acute NHS settings.

Dr Win Tadd of Cardiff University has forwarded details of the following three free workshops entitled "Dignity in practice: An exploration of the care of older adults in acute NHS Trusts" which will be held at the following venues:

1) Bristol workshop : Thursday 16th September 2010 at the Grand Hotel Broad Street Bristol, BS1 2EL

2) Manchester workshop : Tuesday 21st September 2010 at the Thistle Manchester Hotel 3-5 Portland Street Piccadilly Gardens, Manchester, M1 6DP

3) Durham workshop : Tuesday 28th September 2010 at the Radisson SAS Hotel, Durham Framwellgate Waterside City of Durham County Durham, DH1 5TL

The workshops are to discuss a project that investigated the extent to which dignity of older people is maintained in acute hospital wards in 4 NHS settings. By identifying the factors influencing dignified care, it is hoped that the study will shape recommendations for policy makers, commissioners, providers and practitioners to promote best practice and better care provision. The study methods included carrying out observation of care and interviews with patients, relatives, ward staff and key staff within four acute hospital trusts.

The aim of these workshops is to bring together older people, policy makers, those working with older people in acute care, dignity champions, front-line staff and groups supporting older people to discuss the emergent themes and explore potential solutions to the challenges faced in providing dignified care to acutely ill older people.

Each venue has disabled access, and lunch and refreshments will be provided free of charge.
