Dignity in Care Turns 3.

This week is the third anniversary of the Dignity in Care Campaign and to celebrate we are launching 3 items to help you as champions take further action.

Ensuring all staff are trained to deliver care with dignity and respect has been identified as a key barrier to dignity in care over the past three years. The residential and home care sector have collaborated, with funding from the Department of Health, to create dignity specific training for the sector. So this month, every care home and every home care provider in the country will receive a free copy of the training materials: With Respect

To celebrate three years of raising the profile of Dignity in Care an independant review demonstrates that dignity issues show steady improvement over the three years since we launched the campaign. Read the Review of the campaign which shows case studies of what some champions have been doing.

Today also sees the launch of a Dignity guide for Overview & Scrutiny comittees. Every local authority with social services responsibilities have the power to scrutinise local health services. They bring accountability into healthcare decisions and make the NHS more publicly accountable. The guide launched today will help members of the comittee make a real difference to how people who use health and care services are treated and how to assess whether an organisation or service treats the people whom it serves with dignity and respect.

Today we are also celebrating 10,000 champions. There are now over 10,000 champions across the country doing what they can to improve services.
