Dignity Grant comes to life

Prospect Hospice, Wroughton, Wiltshire, will unveil a new £500,000 extension next month.

The extension at the hospice in Moormead Road, Wroughton, comprises four en-suite bedrooms with French doors leading onto a garden terrace.

The addition was largely paid for with a £340,000 Department of Health grant as part of a dignity in care programme.

The remaining money came from the hospice's own budget, which includes fundraising, charity shop profits, legacies and donations.

Sue Pracy, said she was delighted with the new section of the hospice.

"The great thing about the grant is that it was specifically for this extension," she said. "When we receive money we have to weigh up what it would be best used for and other things must wait, so getting the dignity in care grant met we could go ahead with the build."

"It is a very light and airy space which I think offers a less clinical, institutionalised feel for patients," said Sue. "We have beautiful landscaped gardens which the rooms overlook and it's just very peaceful."

Although the hospice will officially open the unit on September 7, the wing has been used by patients since early April, providing accommodation to those receiving end of life and respite care.
