BBC Look North Wants You to Nominate your Community Hero for the Yorkshire Awards

For the last 21 years, the Yorkshire Awards have honoured people who've made an outstanding contribution to life in Yorkshire. Last year's winners include Lance Bombardier Ben Parkinson, Jessica Ennis and the writer of Slumdog Millionaire, Simon Beaufoy. Some winners are less well known - people who've made a real difference in their particular community, and that is why Look North would like you to nominate Yorkshire's Community Hero of 2010.

Do you know someone who's gone the extra mile to achieve something for others?

Someone who really has made a difference where you live?

Someone who deserves an award?

Previous winners include Anne Humberstone, who helped raise millions of pounds for the Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice in Rotherham and Ernest and Elisabeth Hibbert, who provide food for homeless people in Wakefield.

The winner of 2009's Yorkshire Community Hero was Val Lepadatl from Doncaster who set up a care centre for cancer patients.

If you do know of a local hero, tell Look North who they are, and explain in no more than 50 words what your nominee has done and why they deserve an award.

Email your nomination to Please put 'Yorkshire Community Hero' in the title of your email.
