A little bit of help' goes a long way for older people

SCIE supports the findings in a new report from the Joseph Rowntree Foundation, which reveals that older people value low-level support that promotes health, well-being and quality of life in the communities where they live.

"SCIE's own work shows that the little bit of help that volunteers and community organisations can provide can make a real difference to older people's lives," says David Walden, director of adults services at SCIE. "It can prevent crises from developing and we would encourage commissioners to stimulate this level of community support. The Joseph Rowntree report provides valuable evidence to support this."

The report, "How can local authorities with less money support better outcomes for older people?" is available on the Joseph Rowntree Foundation website.
