Dignity In Care

Wednesday 1st February 2012 was Dignity in Care Action Day. At Ladysmith Care Home we acted upon this to promote the importance of Dignity in Care to all of its residents, relatives and staff alike. Not only for this day but for each and every day.

“Memories to Remember”

A memory box was created and decorated by residents for memories of every person to be held. Through individual discussion the memories were recorded on decorated cards and posted into the box. A group sharing session followed where the memories were shared amongst all of the residents, thus promoting more memories to be remembered and discussed within the group. The cards were then hung onto a memory tree with lights added to display the memories with many more to be added.

The group sessions were also a good way to promote Dignity in Care and to discuss individual ideas on dignity and what it means to them. And from this to understand these needs, offer support, encourage independence and individualism, encourage social engagement, create confidence and offer choice whilst maintaining the utmost respect of every individual.
