Edith Louisa Cavell’s hometown Swardeston, Norfolk, England is best known for her work as a nurse in the First World War — and for being sentenced to death for helping Allied soldiers escape German territory The death of this Red Cross nurse was on 12 October 1915 sent shock waves around the world. She had been pioneering new nursing techniques in Belgium. treating all soldiers who needed help, regardless of their nationality.  Her courage, compassion and Christian faith is celebrated in Norwich Cathedral every October.
