Milton Keynes Community Health Services (MKCHS) is launching the second People's Award - Dignity in Care
Local people are invited to say 'thank you' to local health care staff by nominating them for a Dignity in Care award.
Members of the public are asked to make a nomination to help recognise the hard work of a MKCHS service, team or individual. Your nominee could be an administrator or health care worker; someone who has gone that extra mile in providing care, dealing with a case, answering a question or just always being there with a smile.

The International Dementia Excellence Awards
The International Dementia Excellence Awards are designed torecognise organisations and individuals who have worked toimprove the quality of life of people with dementia.

Elder Protection Community Care Award
At Kingfisher House Care Home in Newmarket, care worker Piotr (Peter) Przybylik was recognised for his hard work in going the extra mile to ensure residents at the home receive "Dignity in Care" the award was presented by Ed Mullenger of local organisation Elder Protection, who work along side the Department of Health as a Dignity in Care Champion. Ed says "It is important to recognise the hard work that individuals put in to ensure a dignified service is delivered in the care sector and our Community Care Award has been developed to ensure members of the public & colleagues can show appreciation for the effort put in."

Many staff and volunteers in Health and Social Care do a wonderful job in sometimes difficult circumstances. Rewarding and recognising those staff and local people that go the extra mile and really make a difference to people's dignity is a key part of the work carried out by Elder Protection.
49 year old Polish born Piotr (Peter) has worked at Kingfisher House for the last 2 and a half years and will always arrive early for his shift so he can spend time to check on his residents and have a coffee and chat with them before starting his day. The residents look forward to his arrival and can often be heard attempting a few Polish words with Piotr. Piotr, worked in Germany for 7 years where he was a qualified nurse, and during his time at Kingfisher House he has trained in all areas of care work including "Dementia care" which Kingfisher House is specialised in, and were recently awarded the Pearl Dementia Award (PEARL - Positively Enriching and Enhancing Residents Lives - includes resident experience training.

Southern Cross Care Awards 2009
The National Finals of the Southern Cross Care Awards 2009 took place on 4th March, 2010 at a Gala Dinner in Blackpool. The awards were open to staff in all Southern Cross, Ashbourne Senior Living and Active Care Partnerships care centres. The aim of these awards is to recognise excellence in our teams across the UK and to celebrate the outstanding contribution made by individuals working in our care centres.
The winner of the Southern Cross Healthcare Grand Prix Award 2009 was Jason Dolphin of Aston House Care Centre. Jason is a dynamic and inspiring individual who was chosen as our Grand Prix Winner because of his innovative approach to Dementia Care in his home. He is full of character, enjoys his job immensely and is a huge asset to Aston House Care Centre. The improvements he has made at Aston House have made a huge difference to the lives of the residents.
Best Care Home Award 2009
This exclusive guide only lists care homes that have been awarded the highest rating of 3 stars 'Excellent', by the Care Quality Commission, the independent regulator of health and social care in England. Best Care Home awarded Morton Grange in Derbyshire as Best Care Home 2009.
The winners of the award were thrilled to have their hard work recognised, the winner was featured on Central evening news and Radio Derby and the local newspapers ran the story in all of the regions.
Outstanding Achievement Award at the Great East Midlands Care Awards
Terry Pears, manager of the county council's residential and day care service, received the Outstanding Achievement Award at the Great East Midlands Care Awards.
Terry has beencaring for older and disabled people in Notts for 35 years. Terry was said to have shown "excellent leadership skills, tireless dedication and a commitment to promoting dignity and respect for older people in her care".
Southern Cross Trainer of the Year Award
Congratualtions to Wendy Averall who came runner up in the Midlands Division of the Southern Cross Trainer of the Year Award. Wendy is the lead for Dignity in Care across Southern Cross & provides training, encouragement & support to all Southern Cross Champions. Wendy is a great example of how onne individual with the support of her organisation really can change the way services are delivered across the whole country.
Suffolk County Council's Adult and Communities Service Dignity in Care Awards
The awards were promoted to support the national dignity in care awards and highlight best practice in the county. The standard of entries confirmed the high level of care practiced by staff in Suffolk and the department congratulates all those that were nominated.

Rochdale Dignity In Care Awards
Over one hundred people turned out at RochdaleTown Hall to recognise and celebrate our local Champions in Care. There were four categories for the awards, Residential and Nursing Homes, Hospitals, Care at Home and Mental Health.
The winner for the Hospitals category was Helen Taylor, Staff Nurse at North Manchester General Hospital, having been nominated for her empathetic and caring nature towards patients and staff alike.
Wendy Wilkinson of Heywood was the deserving winner for the Care at Home category, having been nominated by her mother Brenda, Wendy is a full time carer to her daughter who has Cerebral Palsy and still manages to find the time and energy to care for her mother.
The Award for the final category, Mental Health, was given to Tricia Hornby of Rochdale & District Mind, having been nominated for her dedication to the provision of an older person's service for Mental Health in the Rochdale Borough.
Warrington Beacon Council Scheme
Warrington have set up a website to act as a portal of good practice documents, links to useful articles and websites, and to detail any forthcoming events and conferences where we will be showcasing our work. A major event in our Beacon year will be our Open Day, which will take place in Warrington on 27 November 2008. This will be open to all and we look forward to meeting and sharing good practice with colleagues from across the country.
Age Concern 'Dignity in Care' Awards 2009
Falklands war veteran Simon Weston OBE was in Rochdale to present Age Concern's 'Dignity in Care' awards at the Town Hall. The awards ceremony recognised the efforts of carers who look after people over the age of 50. Each winner received a signed copy of Simon Weston's book to go with their award. Winners were as follows:
- Wendy Wilkinson from Heywood - Care at Home Award
- Helen Taylor of North Manchester General Hospital - Hospitals Award
- Tricia Hornby of Rochdale and District MIND - Mental Health Award
- Francis Ukpebar of Hulton Care, Middleton - Residential/ Nursing Homes Award
A special award was presented on the night to Vera Hirst, chairwoman of the Rochdale branch of Age Concern and all round older people's champion for the borough, for her special efforts in providing 'Dignity in Care' for older people. The award will now carry Vera Hirst's name in recognition of outstanding efforts.
Ceretas National Home Care Awards
The Ceretas National Home Care Awards took place on Saturday 6th June. Hosted by Ruby Wax. Sponsored by The Royal Bank of Scotland, this is a national event with Department of Health backing and received nominations and support from all corners of the sector.
Overall Winner Home Care Worker - Debbie Thacker, Somerset Care
Debbie talked about having a "clear mind", having compassion, ensuring the job is always done well, about her passion for caring for those who are near the end of their lives and her dream of having a palliative care team in the community. The panel felt that her contribution to Home Care is quite outstanding.
