Commissioning for Dignity

Commissioning is the process used by local authorities and NHS bodies to arrange services for their local population. It is the process of translating local aspirations and assessed needs, by specifying and procuring services for the local population, into services for people that use them.

Local commissioners will play a vital role in ensuring that care services deliver dignity for their local populations.

NHS, social care and housing commissioners will need to ensure quality standards for dignity within the contracts they place and monitor compliance against those standards.

To do that effectively, commissioners need to understand what drives the service user experience of dignity in care. They then need to create user-defined measures through which they can define and monitor dignity locally.
