CQC released their state of care report this month
There are a number of significant headlines from the report.
Whilst there is good news in that nearly three quarters of services were rated as good or outstanding, [71% and 1% respectively] and only 2 % were rated as inadequate. There are real concerns about adult social care voiced in the report.
- Of those rated as inadequate, a quarter were unable to improve their ratings and 50% rated as requiring improvement, did not improve on re-inspection. The increase in nursing home beds has come to a halt
- There are already examples of providers handing back local authority contracts, and this is likely to continue.
- Age UK research estimates more than a million older people in England were living with unmet need.
- The number of older people receiving local authority funded social care fell by a quarter to around 850,000 in 2013/14.
- 81% of local authorities have reduced their real term spending on social care for older people over the last five years.
There are two versions of the report available that might interest the sector. A care sector specific version and one with an equality and health and social care focus.
