Tea & Talk - Get nattering for mental health!

A comfy sofa, a supportive friend and a nice hot cuppa. Everyone knows how beneficial a good cup of tea and a chat can be. Just sharing your cares and hopes can be great for your own mental health and wellbeing. And now you can raise much-needed funds for the Mental Health Foundation over a cuppa!

To mark World Mental Health Day on 10th October 2010, the Mental Health Foundation invite you to join them and thousands of people across the UK, to take part in a Tea & Talk fundraising event. All you have to do is get together a group of friends or colleagues, put the kettle on, and invite them to make a donation to the Mental Health Foundation - it's as simple as that!

Last year, over 6000 people took part in their Tea and Talk event. This year they are trying to get even more people 'nattering', and with your help, they can make this happen!

1 in 4 of us will experience a mental health problem in any one year. The more money you raise, the more people affected by mental illness they can help. So as well as enjoying a good old natter, you could really make a difference to someone in distress.

Arranging your Tea and Talk can be simple, here are four easy steps to help you get started:

1. Set the date - the Mental Health Foundation are holding theirTea and Talk event on the 8th October, but you can hold your event on a date that suits you;

2. Choose where to hold your event. You can hold your Tea and Talk party at home, in the office at your local hall - in fact anywhere you can make a cuppa!

3. Invite friends and/ or colleagues - if you want you can use the invites included in the Tea and Talk pack;

4. Suggest a donation amount for people to give - whatever anyone can afford will be gratefully received.

The Mental Health Foundation incorporates the Foundation for People with Learning Disabilities, and have Scottish and Welsh offices as well as a UK one. Their research, service development, policy and public and patient involvement teams work across public mental health and health promotion, mental health problems and severe mental illness. The Mental Health Foundation believe it is important to involve the people who use mental health services and their carers in their work, and want to support them to have their say on the way that services are run, as well as to use their experiences to inform their thinking.
